Hi there,

I'm a total newbie to the riding mower world. I just moved from an apartment with no yard to a house with 1.5 acres. It's primarily flat with a few trees and rocks but nothing crazy. I know I want a riding mower, one that I expect to use only for mowing (so no plowing or hauling or anything along those lines) and I'm stuck between the X310 and the D110.

The D110 has some great advantages--primarily the price. But the reviews I've been reading online are incredibly mixed. The X310 seems to have generally positive reviews, but I'm wondering if paying $4k for a mower is overkill given my needs.

I am not mechanically inclined so will the D110 need a lot of regular maintenance compared to the X310? I know the X310 has a 4 year warranty versus the D110's 2 year warranty, but what's realistically the lifespan on these machines? If I do go with the D110 is there an advantage to buying it from a JD dealer versus a box store? And are there accessories for either mower that you'd consider critical (assume I don't want to leave grass clippings all over the yard, so I guess I'll need some sort of bagging attachment)?

And is JD even the way to go? Are there other mowers I should consider?

Thanks for any insights!

Thanks. Any particular model you'd recommend? I'm overwhelmed by all the options out there.

I would pass on the D110 and consider the x310 and x320 mowers you can add baggers to these that work well. I would also look at the zero turn mowers too. Curious if you have need for snowplowing or snowblowing as I think you can setup the x310 with hydraulic lift for a blade but not sure.

You might try getting an X310 with a mulching mower. I like mine and the clippings are not an issue.

I've been looking at the X310 and the D130, I noticed nobody's pushing for the D series but they're not saying why. So why not the D series? I like the X series and will probably go that way, but am wondering if it's really worth the extra $2000 expense?

Get an X series, there is a difference just check the weights between a D and X with same size deck, the X is gonna be heavier,, thicker steel. The better of the X3 series are the X310, X320, and X360 as they use the K58 transaxle. The X300 and X300R are good machines also they just use the K46 transaxle and are considered by some as inferior due to the transaxle. If your property is mostly flat and the machine is primarily a mower with infrequent light hauling or snow removal duties I go with an X300 before a D series. I personally have an X300R, I have zero complaints/problems with the K46 after 100+ hrs and the R is always carrying more weight due to the bagger and "powerflow" and I dont back away from going up the sand mound even with a full bag of grass.
