I'am having trouble with the Temp. gauge showing that it's overheating when it is not, I have already changed the Temp. sending unit and the gauge still go all the way to the bottom "past the red", I have also noticed that when I engage the mower deck that the temp hand will move suddenly form 50% or 75% all the way to the bottom of the gauge, seems to be electrical but not sure, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Have you made sure that the radiator is totally clean of grass? Remove the side panels and makes sure it is totally cleaned out.

Sounds like either a grounding issue or the dash itself is bad. I would start by locating and cleaning any ground connections.

I have the same issue with my X475. Took it to the JD dealer and got no help. Temp is fine till engage PTO and needle pegs red. Engage back up switch and needle goes past indicators of red. Also the lights for PTO and backup dim and the fuel gauge pegs to past full when this happens. I can beat on the left side of the dash hard and sometimes it will go to normal. It has to be a ground issue. I am working on mower now and will report if I get fixed. This does not hurt anything and the tractor has a cutoff for the PTO if the engine overheats. It's just an bothersome.

I have also the exact same problem on an x495. I have just pulled the rear fender off last night and am going to dig in to the wiring there as i know there is some issue back there with the rear lights . I was going to take out the dash as well and see if there is some problem with the grounding. This can only be the reason the temp needle is rising , ill have to go over the wiring for the PTO engage and see if they share a common ground . As soon as i find anything ill let you know as well

has anyone figured out where the ground is bad on the 475? I've tried all i know to do and it still pegs past red with the pto is engaged.
