I'm picking up a used x500 with a 48inch deck. Anyone know if it will fit in the bed of a short bed f250? Thanks

:welcome: To TBN. Probably it will fit in pretty nicely. If not just have your truck bed open and have some rope or some chains so it wont come out.

I think a 48 inch deck is 52 inches wide, I don't think the space between the wheel wells is 52 inches???

+1 on Markcuda's reply - 4' plywood lays flat, but pretty close to the wheelwells. If it is too tight a fit, the deck removes fairly easy from these machines.

Yup, if you have a nice concrete surface, that deck can be off in 2 minutes:thumbsup:
Even on grass, it is very easy.

I've never measured, but that's probably exactly right. It is possible to barely squeeze our GT275 with a 48" deck between the wheel wells of our 2003 F350 srw long bed- there's usually a little rubbing, but it doesn't bother me because of the bedliner.

The X500 is substantially heavier and has a wider wheel base than the GT series. I also recommend removing the deck, safely getting the X500 into the bed, then finding a safe place to put the deck (even in the back seat if necessary ;)).

I just measured my 48 inch deck, the widest part was 51 inches.

Tried it! Won't work! You'd have to ramp up your bed floor so the deck could be over the wheel wells. Or take the deck off.

Bruce, I see you have a 54 inch deck in your signature.
Did you mean a 48 inch deck won't fit?

you should be able to drive it up till the deck hits
the wheel wells, and stop there, the rear wheels should
be right about on the hingepoint of the tailgate.
then tie it in and you should be good to go.

The cables that hold the tail gate, does any one get nervous driving a 6/700 pound plus mower on their tail gate?

Sounds good. Thanks for the ideas. Looks like I will try to squeeze it in and if that fails just take the deck off. Thanks!

I used to load my old style 110? in a short bed Ford pickup years ago. Backed up to an embankment and dropped the tailgate. That was the easy way to load and unload. Today with trucks getting weaker and alot more expensive I recommend removing the tailgate and using some of the aluminum ramps made for this purpose. If the rear mower wheels won't fit that might be a problem.

That's how I'd do it to it. And after you secure the tractor secure the hood and anything else that the wind may take away in a flash.

It was a tight fit but the deck slid between the wheelwells. It did rub the bed liner a bit but I was glad to be able to close the tailgtate. Thanks for all the ideas.

Good advise. It is kind of amazing how many L&G seats I see by the side of the road during mowing season.

Mark kind of a long story but when I got my X500 last fall my dealer was out of 54" decks and did not want to order one and he said take with the 48" and bring it back in the spring when all my new stock gets in and I'll switch it out for you. I did that two weeks ago and changed my sig.
