X585
I just took delivery of an X585 with 54" deck, 3pt, York Rake, and 47" blower. The first day I used the York rake to clean my side yard. The tractor had plenty of power. The next day I mowed the yard and the tractor appeared to have less power.

When I engaged the PTO the tractor wanted to stall, but the engine rev'ed up and the tractor did not stall. This happened everytime. Also, the tractor appeared to have less power. I would have to push further down on the peddle to achieve the same speed as w/o the PTO engaged.

Is this normal? I would have expected more from this tractor.

Certainly not normal, if as I understand what you describe. Back to the dealer with the problem, pronto (IMO).

Sometimes these Kawasaki fuel injected engines can have these problems, and to a one, they seem to be related to the fuel injection. John Deere will make it right for you, and no, I do not think it is normal behavior from this engine.

Is there a known "TSB" with Deere on this issue? Has it been with all Kawasaki engines, or just recent ones? I talked with two co-workers who have a 585 and a 485, respectively. They both see this issue. Both have owned their units for more than a year, closer to two years.

Thanks
John

I've owned a X485 and have never seen or heard of this problem. I have several friends and additional acquaintences and have never heard any mention of a 'loss of power' after initial use (I assume this is the 'issue' you are mentioning).

What does your Deere dealer say? I'd let mine know right away if it were me.

Prior to this X485, I had two 445's, and neither of them had the 'issue' you speak of.

Realistically, I don't think Deere (and Kawasaki engines) would get the good reputation they have if there was an issue like this, so hope you 'getRfixed' soon. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wanted to mow once more before calling the dealer to ensure I had all the fact straight. I hope to do that tonight. I will let all know what they say. So far they seem like they are a good dealer.

Thanks

John,

I went through this on my X485. The dealer replaced the manifold (where the butterfly valves reside). Seems that at temp the valves were sticking causing problems. In my case I was experiencing a surge (engine RPM stability).

I printed several posts found here (TBN) from several TBNr' that had the same problem and gave them to the Dealer. It helped with the troubleshooting.... (Look for my posts in the JD own/operate forum.)

I have no doubt JD will take care of you.
