On Monday, I was working on my SSQA pellet fork build and went to pull the front of my tractor into the garage because I didn't want to wheel my welder out of the garage. There is a 1.5 - 2 inch lip on the concrete leading up to my garage door and with the tractor in High range it just wouldnt go over the little lip if i was at a dead stop... no matter what RPM the engine was at or how much peddle i gave it. I could go right over if I was already moving but with the ROPS up and the BH on, my tractor cant fit into my small 7' garage door so I have to approach very slowly. Its not like it bogs down the engine, it just pops a pressure relief valve and wont go any further. Obviously putting it into low range works but I find this very annoying and quite disappointing. in low range it only does this when loading the bucket to max while plowing into a mound of dirt. Is this to be expected with HST in high range or is there something wrong with my tractor? Overall I really like the HST for my yard because there is so many tight areas I need to get into and changing gears on my Mitsu was a PITA.

My tractor rarely comes out of low range because of the surroundings that we use it in. I do know that high range doesn't seem to like the hill when it is in that mode. I did a test for you using 2 pavers which are 2.3" high. In high 2wd , though not a powerhouse - will crawl over the pavers. That is from a stop, parked touching the pavers. That is with the tractor cold, in forward- light touch on the pedal. Now, ask it to reverse over the same pavers- it won't do it from a stop. Move ahead a foot and then it will go rearward over the pavers.
Your bill is to show us your forks when you are done and do some lift tests so that we can compare notes. I have a thread with some tests here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...375591-xj2025h-loader-w-forks-question-2.html

Thanks for doing those test, I think you confirmed what I was hoping for, rather than a lemon HST. Did you have any rear ballast or attachments on? I have the BH mounted so maybe the extra weight is why I cannot crawl over at all from dead stop?

I havnt had a chance to test the pallet forks, but they are mostly done. Ive been delayed on playing with them. We haven't had any rain from June to 3 days ago... now its rained for 3 days straight and its already down to mid/high 30's and snow falling in places. I was hoping winter would hold off for a bit longer, I have so much to get done. Including getting my new heating system hooked up in my house so we dont freeze to death!

Ill do some playing with the forks tonight or this weekend and get some pictures/videos.. I have to move a bunch of stuff around before the snow falls!

Looking good! Yep, same here w/ the backhoe on. I bought my forks and thinking afterward that I could have shaved some weight off for my purposes had I built them. Here, we're trying to beat the rain. Up on the roof cleaning gutters, checking skylights.
