XJ2025H Exhaust Broke

Friday while using my tractor I noticed a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. Upon inspection I found a weld on the muffler had broke where it attaches to the pipe that bolts to the exhaust manifold. When I first found the problem the weld was just cracked part of the way around the pipe, I was able to see the crack with an inspection mirror and a flashlight. Others may want to check theirs also.

I tried to call my dealer and they were closed for the holiday. I had my neighbor weld it up, Saturday.

I am going to contact the dealer after the holiday and have them send my a new one, it should be covered under the warranty.

May be warranted , maybe not. The OEM told me that my front drive shaft was not part of the powertrain because it was external and no external parts are covered. My dealer covered it at his expense but that just goes to show the warranties are sometimes just a paper and of no practical value.

Definitely covered under warranty. But, your better off using the 1 your neighbor welded. It is much stronger & the 1 you get from your dealer will do the same thing due to the weak weld. Same thing happened to my J2023. Chances are it happened due to loose mounting bolts. That was the case in my situation.

I was hoping it would be covered under warranty, as I've only had the tractor about six months. I will probably still get a new one from LS, so I have a spare.

In my case I did not find any mounting bolts loose. I though they had possibly attached the lower bracket on the exhaust pipe first and tightened it before tightening the bolts on the exhaust manifold, putting stress on the weld. When I reassembled it, I tightened the muffler to the exhaust manifold first and then tightened the mounting bracket bolt on the exhaust tube. Hopefully I won't have anymore issues.

The dealer covered it under warranty. They also let me keep the one that was welded up, so now I have a spare, if needed.

The muffler on my J2023H did exactly the same thing before 50 hours. It was replaced under warranty. It's coming up on 250 hours now and no more muffler problems.

I suppose that I should just pull mine and reinforce it before it breaks. All the fasteners were secure when I bought the tractor. Do they come loose over time?

All fasteners were tight on mine. I suspected the design of the original muffler was flawed such that when all the fasteners were tightened there was enough torque placed on the weld to cause it to break over time.
