2014 XR4046
Hello all:

New to the TBN.

Just was curious if any others have used a backhoe on the front of their tractor via the quick attach, much like a skid steer does. Picked up an older working Case D130 backhoe ($700) and weighed it (1692 lbs). These type of backhoes were attached to the pins on the front of Case 1845B skid steers which did not have the quick attach system. According to the specs of a Case 1845B the operating load is stated at 1700 lbs.

My idea was to just weld a HD quick attach mount plate on the back hoe instead of rear mounting, use it on the front of my LS XR4046 which has loader capacity of 2500 lbs lift at the pivot pins. I dont plan to do major digging with it, just small stuff and leave the big stuff to the pro's.

Brother in law uses a New Holland skid steer for his concrete business and that too has a quick attach back hoe which weighs a little more (2200 lbs) than the D130 and he said he likes it alot but its not like a professional back hoe as far as speed etc. but it does work and its done alot of work for him.

My tractor is a 2014 LS XR4046 and its still under warranty, since the backhoe does not weigh more than the 2500 lbs limit on the loader it should not be violating the warranty correct? they sell these tractors with the quick attach so that you can use the same implements as a skid steer etc.

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to TBN...............

Since your D130 BH is made to operate on a skid steer it won't work on your XR4046. Skid steer BH's run on high GPM hydraulics and the XR4046 is basically a low GPM hydraulics.
In order to run that BH on Front or Rear of the XR you would need to buy a high GPM PTO pump, oil tank, and hoses plumbed to the BH.
That BH would put too much stress on the loader arms. Plus, the LS tractor you have requires a BH sub frame. It would probably void your warranty without one.

Thanks for the input.

Did see the posts about people making their own sub frames and just might check into this. Tried asking my dealer but no response, so I take it that the only sub frame a dealer would supply was if a person bought the whole BH from them. Since I got the BH cheap enough and it works, think ill check into your recommendations about the PTO pump/sub frame etc. Just wish the actual flow rate was higher on the tractor, but gotta work with what is there. Its a nice tractor and so far no issues.

I bought a used Woods BH750 for mine. It came with a sub frame (for another tractor) and the PTO pump and tank. I adapted the sub frame to fit my tractor.

Even if you could get an LS sub frame you would have to adapt the BH to fit plus you still need to PTO pump and tank to operate it.

I wouldn't use it on the loader arms, they aren't designed to take the type of forces a backhoe pulling and twisting would put on it. I have a d100xr I had on a kubota and now have it on my kioti with a factory kioti subframe.
