XR4150 won’t start

Any suggestions, turn the key, it makes a whirring noise but won’t start. If it was a car I would say the solenoid was bad, but I don’t know anything about diesels.

No idiot light are showing on the instrument panel.

Does the engine turn over at all?

PTO switch in the off position?

Check the safety switch on the clutch?

Everything appears normal, pto is off, and with everything in neutral, clutch and brake pushed I turn the key and it whirrs, but starter never seems to engage or turnover.

Negative battery cable was loose, but I tightened that, manual suggest checking fame grounds but I have no clue where they are.

whirrs, like the starter is spinning and perhaps the bendix isn't engaging?

Can you try to start it and put your hand on the starter to feel it " or have someone ", may be a bad or stuck bendix.

I am pretty sure it is the starter whirring, I tried tapping on it, when I was a kid back in the 70s I couldn’t afford to get my car fixed and had to do that all the time to get the starter to engage until I had enough money to replace the solenoid.

After the whirring stops, it does click a couple of times.

From your description it sounds like the starter bendix is giving you problems. I'd take it off and bench test it. If that's the problem it should be under warranty.

Thanks for the assistance, called a mechanic today, he is supposed to be here on Thursday.

It was the starter, had a heck of a time finding one, but it’s on the way, should be here tomorrow.
