So have this mower....it wont start. If i jump the starter it will turn over and run and i can drive it. But as soon as you attempt to put the pto on it shuts off. And the hour meter wont turn on this way even if the key is in the on position.

Replaced the starter switch still nothing. I hate to replace different eletronic parts cause they are expensive and cant be returned. Any ideas why it wont start from the key?

It sounds like an electrical problem. You'll need a multimeter to do some diagnosis or have a dealer look at it if you aren't able to do that. The fact that the hour meter doesn't run would indicate that 12 volts is not present on the output of the ignition switch. The meter should run whenever the key is turned on. It could be a fuse, a bad switch, bad battery, battery cables etc.

I suspect a safety cutout switch triggered by the position of the pto lever. Look there first. You might jumper across the switch as a diagnostic technique.

There may also be a second safety switch that needs your weight in the seat to allow current to the starter solenoid, look there too.

The seat switch is bypassed if you depress the clutch and put on the foot brake. I wonder how i can bypass the seat switch.

Your best approach would be to get the shop manual for this machine. You need the wiring diagram to trouble shot the problem.
