I have been looking at JD XUV and Polaris Ranger. I like the looks of the Polaris Ranger Crew, but the same stuff that made me buy a HPX over a Ranger is coming up.

Ranger:
Cabs seem like an after thought and they are not cheap.
All kinds of storage - glovebox, middle dash, on the side.
Plastic bed feels like junk - I suspect I would melt it or something
Bed seems high - need to compare to XUV and HPX
I like the hydraulic cylinder assist on the bed lift.
Doesn't appear to be pre-wired for lights and other accessories
Easy to slide around in the bench seat - need to wear seatbelt for sure.
Engine under seat - seems like it would get hot under there.
Like air intake - pretty high up compared to JD.
$11,300 for crew
$10,500 for 700 XP
Needs a speed limiter - kids will kill themselves in it.

XUV:
The cab is first class - car like - not cheap, but it is quality.
Access to fuel cap with cab in place sucks.
Pre-wired for accessories
Metal bed
Bed seems lower - easier to load.
Like diesel option - still debating vs. 620i
Like bucket seats
Wish they had 2 rows of seating
Hydroformed frame is seriously stout.
Like belt enclosure on diesel - they need one for the gas.
Could use more in cab storage.
Heater goes in glovebox - looking at Curtis cab heater which is in dash.
Like option for high output charging system
Finally 2" hitch front and rear.
Ain't cheap - waiting on my dealer to give me the regular customer pricing.
Customer service is much better at the JD place.
JD Credit makes it too easy to buy stuff.

Why doesn't JD have 2 rows of seating. I know the minute I buy a XUV, they will come out with one with additional seating...

The plastic bed is pretty tough. If you were hauling molten lava, yeah you would probably melt it. After dumping rocks and other assorted hard and heavy stuff, mine is holding up. The bed lift is only good for lifting the lightest of loads. Your not going to dump a load of gravel or dirt easily with it. I added the power dump.

I think the only thing that is really prewired is if you add the power dump.

I have never felt any heat coming off of mine. Your mileage may vary in TX, but then again, we never had any complaints of hot seats in Iraq and we used them over there and it was somewhat hot. :)

I haven't been able to figure that one out myself. Speed key limiter system is available on the carbuerated models but not the fuel injected models.

Actually the belt enclosure is on the gas and not on the diesel.

ranger does over 40mph xuv 30mph. ranger will climb oner the xuv if it's going to slow.lol the ranger is made for more offroad use and can still do work ware the xuv is supose to be able to work (never seen any videos )of anyone with their loaded xuv's but the hpx's and rangers seem to take the loads wellthe xuv's 23hp ranger40hp it you have a belt problem to change the belt it's a pain to change it on the gators where as the ranger i here's it's a 15 minute job.it all depends on what you ar gonna use it for. if your planning on alot of offroad use then i would go with the ranger.

Spending as much as these things cost, I'd be more wanting Air Conditioning than anything. The little import refurbished 4wd trucks kind of appeal to me.

FWIW, I have an electric EZ-Go, and I go most anywhere on my property. Very little mud.

Demo both and trade with a dealer you trust and like.

The xuv and ranger are both excellent machines. If you ride in deep mud the ranger is probably the better choice.
The starter on the ranger is enclosed like on a motorcycle where the starter on the xuv is open like an automobile.

The ranger xt runs 50 mph and the xuv tops out at 30. Xuv bed is steel vs Ranger poly bed. 40 hp ranger vs 23 hp xuv.
Personally when summer comes I will most likely be getting a ranger. :)
I've had 3 gators with no complaints, but the ranger seems to be the best bang for the buck today...

Both are good machines. My bud has a new Ranger and I just got a new XUV. I like his machine just fine, but I personally liked the XUV better. It fit the need that I wanted in a machine and is one heck of a UTV. After my initial wiring harness woe's with my machine, it has been nothing but tremendous. I will get some pics of mine up soon with a load and different views for you guys. Not gonna favor either one too much, but I will say this; The XUV rides like a caddy and will pull like a horse.;) .........................Roger
