Yanmar 135D
I have a Yanmar 135D 4wd. There is a lever on the left side next to the driver's seat and I have not been successful in determining what it does. The label is gone except for "PTO" so it must have something to do with the power take off. The PTO works fine for the rear lift. Can someone tell me the function of this lever (see pic)? Is this for PTO speed control? Thanks PTO Lever.jpg

That lever on the operator's left will engage/disengage the Power TakeOff shaft that sticks out the back of the tractor to drive a mower etc. That is separate and unrelated to the 3 point lift arms controlled by the lever on the operator's right side.

PTO will have a Lo speed about 540 rpm at 2200 engine rpm, and a Hi speed about double that. Any US implement will use 540 rpm and turning the implement faster is dangerous.

And Welcome!

540 and 770 at 2540rpm. 540 would be achieved at 1781 engine rpm in high range.

Excellent, thanks for the info. So, now - how do I slow down the lift and drop rate of the 3 point? I have a valve under the seat with at small T handle on it. Is that the valve or? My lift and drop is very fast and jerky. Thanks

Engine speed or how fast you move the lift handle would be about the only ways I would know you could slow down the lift speed. Drop speed is controlled by the T handle.

Jerky could be caused by contaminated fluid, stopped up suction screen, suction air leak.

Let's distinguish the valve under the front-center of the seat, which on the smaller Yanmars can have a T-handle, from the smaller T-handle 'drop rate valve' under the left or right side of the seat.

The one in front is to block the return line from the 3-point, in order to lock the 3-point in the up position for maintenance on an attached implement. This front valve's normal operating position is wide open, full counterclockwise on its knob or T-handle.

The smaller T-handle valve on the side of the transmission is the drop rate valve. Closing it partly (clockwise) will slow the descent of a heavy implement.

I don't know of a way to moderate the 3-point's lift rate aside from a gentle touch on its lever. But I have noticed my present YM186D lifts more slowly than the YM186D I sold so there must be some difference it how it is set up. Possibly this second tractor's power steering proportioning valve has an effect even when not steering, or possibly the earlier YM186D had the optional larger hydraulic pump.

Many thanks for the detailed info from all. I am using a box scraper to take down a dirt mound to level and wanted to spread it out more or less evenly. That is why I wanted to have a slower lift speed as I unload the scraper while moving forward. I have been running at higher engine speed to keep the fan pulling air over the radiator so maybe slowing the engine down is the best solution. Thanks to other info on cooling in another thread, I cleaned out my very dirty radiator cooling fins and the engine stays right at 210 on my mechanical gauge. So, I should be able to work at a slower engine speed.

Thanks to you, California. I will check for that smaller side valve to slow the descent. I would think it safer to slow it down in general although when I was taking down the dirt mound, dropping fast did take a nice bite out of the mound. Great stuff. Really enjoying my tractor. Lots to learn. This thing is a real torque monster. Am going to try the flail mower next.
