I have a Yanmar 155D with a cat1 3 point hitch. It also has a yanmar fel attached.
I tried to hook up a small BH that I bought on Ebay, (paid $650.00 for BH).

I estimated the BH to weigh roughly 500 lbs. But when I tried to lift it it would only lift about an inch or two and then wouldnt hold it up?

Is the 3 point just not big enough for it?
Did I blow any seals/relief valves? Or worse ruin my pump?

It was late when I was trying to do all this. So my next step is to get back out there hook up my 240 lb couterweight back to the 3 point hitch and see if things are still intact.

Maybe my etimate of weight was off? Here is a pic of the backhoe, although not a very good pic. Might give an idea?

I don't know the lift capacity of the YM155D, but I doubt it's any more than 500# at the ends of the lift arms. With the BH extending several feet out from that, I'm sure the effective weight will be 2-3 times that.

What he said.

Leverage. If that unit weighs 500# it's phyiscal configuration may be asking the tractor to lift more like 800# or so...or more. 500# at the lift pins is different than 500# that extends to several feet further out.

I was able to get it lifted and at least off the dang trailer.

I had to reposition the lift links that go from the lift arms to the lower arms, not sure what they are called?

Once i got them in the furthest back hole it lifted it up but straining a bit. Your right leverage is everything.

Here is a pic of what Im talking about. In the pic you can see the "links" located in the forward hole. After moving them back, the 3pt had enough power to lift it.
And yes I did move the boom etc. as close to tractor as possible to try to help.

No wonder it wouldn't pick it up. That looks like where the chains should be attached.

I did check my owners manual. And now have the lower arms arranged with chains and links as per the pictures and instructions.
If all else fails read the manual...lol

Seems to me that you'd have more leverage and more lifting power by having the lifting links attached further from the pivot point (farther out from the tractor, closer to what's being lifted) rather than closer. Of course, you would not be able to lift as far that way. Is my thinking wrong here?

Your thinking is right on track!

If I read it right, the picture shows the configuration that wouldn't pick it up. After he moved the lift links back (to the left in the picture) it worked ok.
