Looking at a Yanmar 1600, tractor cranks and runs good, has a little smoke when first cranked and then pretty much disappears after running for a while, know nothing about a Yanmar, what horsepower is this tractor, are parts available, I can probably buy this tractor for 1200.00 to 1300.00, is this a good price, any advice appreciated.

The reason it is cheap, the last time I checked there were not many parts available. Figure on scrapping it if it needs much for parts.

Others more qualified will probably chip in and give you better advice....but with a little more information it would help them in figuring value

2wd or 4wd (for price I would expect 2 wh drive and hope it was 4wd)

Been stored outside or inside?? Overall condition of tractor?? Faded paint? etc. Tires ??

I always try to find good well taken care of things at a good price.....I have a theory that if it looks worn out it probably is....does not work everytime but I have spent and lost more money on cheap and free motorcycles than I care to remember. Got to figure it works the same for tractors. ( do realize there are some diamonds in the rough so always get as much info as I can before I decide not to buys something)

What do you plan on doing with it??? Will it fit your needs?? Any implements with it or available?

Price sounds good for a small tractor....but where I live 4wd is a must and will sell quicker and for higher money on the resale every time.....the 2wd tend to take longer to sale and a more narrower market.

***I posted this before seeing Kays response.........when it comes to models to buy or not buy....he, Aaron, etc are much more knowledgable of the do's and don'ts than I am.......listen to these guys they know their stuff....goodluck

If the 1600 is in the same "family" as the 1100, 1300, ect, then it's a "grey" and there should be parts available for it. Just a guess as I'm not familiar with that model.

Hi, I have a YM1600, paid $2,200 for mine and have enjoyed this little work horse for a few years. Hoye Tractor has an online parts catalog for this model with many parts available. It is considered an Orphan Model because there are very few around. It has 16 PTO HP and 18.5 at the engine. Mine smokes a little like you describe, burning about 8 ounces of Oil every tank of fuel, not an issue for me. If you are not interested let me know, if it is not to far from me I would drive to have a second one in running condition.

Good Luck

The 1600 and 1900 share the same parts manual. I have a 1900 and have not had any trouble getting parts. Minor differences in the cooling system and a few other places but should not be a problem to repair. Several of the gray market tractors share the same parts.
