I've never found a use for float, but be aware that the more you spend on a hydraulic control the better - more controllably - it will work at very small motions. And money also buys more of the ability to lift and curl simultaneously. It's all because of the machining operations involved.
I hear you. I'm a junkie for high quality used tools. An old bronze 19th century optical surveyor's transit in a fitted wooden case is a thing of beauty.
The barn has drawers full of "I might find a use for one of those, someday" kinds of tools.
Like a brand new 65 mm open end wrench (WHY?) And no less than 3 differently designed automotive battery terminal pullers. None is useful in an AGM world, but each is so clever I couldn't help myself.
