My Yanmar 240 2wd, with 8 speed + reverse has a problem with poping out of gear when in reverse. Does not do that with any other gear. I noticed that the shifting rail on the left side of the tranny pops out about 3/4" from the rear of gear box when shifting into reverse. It slides back in when shifting into other gears. There is an o-ring on the shifter rail which also slides out with the rail. The mechanic said that the shifter fork was probably bent and would be expensive. I don't have the cover off yet, but need info. I have a 240 cd, but it is little help. Thanks..Ron

I just went out and looked at mine for you. FWIW, a rod does not stick out the back of the transmission cover when reverse is selected.

Like Winston said, if the rod moves along with the fork then there is no detent.
