I have my eye on a YanMar 2420D that is semi-local.

How easy is it to get parts for these? Anything I need to look for / know about before I take the leap?

I just want to make sure that I get something that I can easily maintain and not have to search the ends of the earth to find simple parts for it.

Thanks.

Hoye has that listed on his website for parts. You might want to call them or other dealers on this forum to learn more about it. Most Yanmars have good parts availability.

If it's only "semi-local" why limit yourself to that particular unit? There are a number of dealers who have good reputations who can deliver to just about anywhere, and a good reputable dealer is your best assurance of parts support. As always, get references.

What do you consider simple parts. The 20 series is one of the larger tractors that Yanar made. My 2020d is about 2600 lbs. I like it very much. I selected it after looking at many other tractors ans doing a lot of research. The size of the operators position was a major consideration. My feet are to large nost of the other models. Not so funny when you really need to stop and yor brake foot gets tangeled in the petals. I have had no problem getting parts. I have not needed many. I stock up on filters via mail order. The exhaust system that I hat to replace because of a guy-wire and watching the wrong thing at the wrong time took about 10 days. About the same as getting the same part for a Deere but much less expensive.

My main concern is filters, brake pads / shoes, clutch, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with this unit, but I just like to make sure that I have a line on parts that are prone to wear and tear.

The tractor is 90 miles away, so it's something I can pick up in a day from my house.

Thanks.

It's probably obvious, but let me state it explicitly:

A few of us live within driving distance of a reputable gray-market Yanmar dealer who offers service and parts.

For everybody else, a Yanmar is an Internet Tractor.

If you need something, you generally order it from one of the dealers who posts here. (or you might prefer a different non-local firm.)

There's no problem with availability, just that shipping will be quick or take a week depending on how much you want to pay for premium shipping.

The UPS truck will bring this part to your house, in about the same time that UPS will deliver a similar part from the warehouse to your local Deere dealer for a Deere owner to pick up there.

So there really isn't any difference.

One caveat: before buying the tractor, research old threads here on TBN to determine the few models of Yanmars to avoid due to no parts available.
