Buying Advice yanmar 2500 w/ transmission issues.

There is a yanmar 2500 with front loader in my area for $2000. The current owner is claiming the 1st and 3rd gear shift forks are broken off into the transmission
I can't find any real info on this model tractor and am wondering how expensive parts would be, how hard to repair on my own (I am mechanically inclined), and if it would be a good buy.

Shouldn't be a real hard job. I would make sure that it (the broken parts) didn't do any other damage ( to some other gears, etc, )

That tractor (reconditioned by dealer) sells for around $6500.00. It may or may not be a good buy. There may be other issues. You have to check out the tractor & decide.

According to the current owner it fell into the transmission. Trying to get more info. Is this a reliable tractor and what's the equivalent US model? I'd like to know the specs for the tractor and can't find them under ym 2500

It could be an excellent tractor. Around 25-30 HP about the same tractor as a JD 850. AT the top of the page is a search tab. Plenty of info. Several members have the 2500

I saw that ad over at Palestine. The price is right "if" you don't have broken gears, etc. and you are mechanically inclined. I don't think I would buy it until I had pulled the transmission cover and had a peek. Gears might be hard to find. Just another opinion. Another thought. Good chance that tractor came from LCI at Wills Point. It has the same loader my ym2002d has. Nothing wrong with that. As you may know LCI gets their tractors from Vietnam and are "suppose" to be refurbished. If it is from there they will have their sticker on it somewhere.

There's also another guy in Canton selling them with the same loader. Supposedly he imports them direct from japan. If you believe him. He also wants top dollar though.

Maybe a tad high but didnt realize there was a loader on it! I thinkits a good buy if a shift fork is all it needs. And i would have a deal that if you pull the cover and nothing but the forks are gone you will buy it, but if gears are busted etc you will put the top back on and seal it up professionally for him, just silicone. You will probly only find gears off a parts tractor and they will cost a bit im sure!

There is a member on here who has some busted gears or a pinion or something in his YM336 or whatever it is. His name on here is like Dolmush or something. Anyway my point is that Hoye has the part he needs, its just $1100!!

I would start it up and see if the motor is good and the loader works but im sure loader is fine!

Went and looked at the tractor. Top side gears looked good, can't see the lower gears. Did purchase the tractor. The owner said the tractor will need to be split to repair it, but looking at it when I got home it appears there's an access panel on the underside that can be removed after removing the filter housing. Will know more in the morning after I get to work on it more. Lots of extremely fine metal shaving in the hydrolic filter. Not sure if that's a bad sign or not.
