Yanmar 2T80UJ

Hello all.I have a question regarding the 2T80UJ engine which is native to the John Deere 650.Was this exact engine used in any Yanmar models?I originally thought the YM146 garden tractor also shared this engine.Thanks for the help!

The "J" at the end means that it was made specifically for the Deere. It will share several parts with other Yanmar tractor engines but no Yanmar tractors use that exact engine. For example- it shares pistons with the YM1820 but does not share a head gasket with any other Yanmar. The 146 is a 75mm bore engine - your engine is an 80mm. Hope that helps.

Aaron,thank you for the quick response.The pictures contained in an earlier post by sacsr are throwing me for a loop.The gear case has 2T80UJ stamped into it.Could this be a gear case swap or something along those lines?

Yanmar probably took some of those timing covers that they had made for the 2t80uj engine and stuck them on the 146. Probably the same exact cover with just the different engine model cast into it. It may even have the same basic block casting but is just machined different. I don't know that though. I can tell you for sure that the YM146 does not have a 2T80 engine.

It is also not uncommon to find 'incorrect' model numbers cast into heads. I was told that a lot of swapping on those types of parts took place during production. The parts are technically the same but the model numbers cast into them may or may not match with what was being produced at the time. A 3T90 head, for example, may also fit a 3T84 engine so you might find an 3T84 engine with a 3T84 casting on the block and a head with 3T90J casting.
