I've got a Yanmar 3000 with a FEL. The engine overheated so badly that it cannot be repaired. It was a 3T84T-N engine. I am hoping to purchase a replacement engine and the replacement doesn't have to be a 3T84T-N either. Does a comparable engine type exist? Even one that would require a few modifications of some sort would possibly be okay. My efforts to find an exact replacement for a 3T84T-N thus far have only resulted in finding rebuild/repair kits which I cannot use.

The 3T84T-N was only in the YM4220 so someone has already done some kind of an engine swap at some point. Did your engine have a turbo (The 'T' in 84T-N)? The factory engine was a 3T84. I'm not aware of any other engines that would be a direct bolt in- especially since there would have already had to be modifications made in order to use a 3TN84T-N.

I appreciate the replies as they confirmed what I was thinking which is that I going to have to get another tractor - although I'd really rather keep using the one I've got! Thanks again.

3T84 was used in more of the YM series than most. It shouldn't e too hard finding an engine.
From the Yanmar Model Listing off of the Yanmar Tractor Owners Group over on GruopsIO, 24 of he Gray Market used them and 6 o the US domestic used them. A few of the John Deere's used them too.
Did you reach out to Fredrick's in AL yet? Or even WKY Tractor Salvage where they specialize in just Japan imported tractors and the ones painted green called John Deere.
Fredrick's just did a major overhaul to their site. Rather than a PDF catalog, it's now focused with items for on-line review and sales direct.

There may be even more applications for that engine beyond farm tractors - maybe excavators, snow grooming stuff, generators, marine engines, whatever.
I found my YM240's engine was widely used for the refer units on semitrailers and for fishing boats back in the day. (with different manifolds etc).
Sometimes tracking a known unique component - injector or something - on Ebay will list other applications.
