Hi Everyone,

I have a 3110D and it has developed a leak right on the centre casting of the front axle. There is a bolt in the bottom of the casting, I assume the sump plug for draining?

I cant yet tell if it is from one of the bolts and it is running round, down and off the central bolt or if it is one of the seal's on either side of the central cast. I have cleaned it and left paper underneath until morning to see where it is.

It is also very sticky and gooey, not like oil.

Anyone any ideas or had similar?

Can I use some front axle leak sealant fluid stuff? If so where do I put it in and how much?

Should I replace the seals?

What is the fluid inside supposed to be? What weight of oil? Is it connected to the hydraulic gearbox system or a separate reservoir?

Sorry for the naivety, I have had it a couple of years but it hasn't had any issues yet so I am learning as things happen.

This is what it looked like when I first saw the leak.

This is after I cleaned it up to look for issues.

Is this how you put oil in? Through the nut located on top of the left axle?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Have you checked all the bolts in the area assuring they are tight? 90w gear oil is used in the housing or a multigrade can be used. The gear oil sometimes feels sticky. Front axle is self contained. That is the fill hole you are showing, most have a dipstick on one side or the other. It is ok to use something like Lucas power steering stop leak but you might want to know what is leaking before proceeding. Hoye provides part drawings for your 4 wheel drive. You would have to determine which you have. YM311_311D: Yanmar Tractor Parts

I have checked the bolts, they are all tight. I think it is coming out of the seal between the 2 castings.

How much of the leak sealer do I put in?

I have ordered 5L of the 90w gear oil. I may as well replace it once I have stopped the leak.

How much gear oil does it take to fill it to capacity?

How do I drain the stump end parts where the wheels attach to as that part is lower than the sump plug isn't it? Or can you not and you just replace 90% each time?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I would think there should be a drain plug on the lower half of the stub axle housings. Follow directions on the bottle, I don't think you can put to much. Probably holds 5 or 6 quarts, check for a dip stick.

I have a very similar leak on mine and assumed it was one of the seals. I致e got them here but haven稚 had a chance to install them for other things breaking. When I do I値l reply here and let you know how mine went on my 3110d.

Hi,

I added the leak stop stuff and tightened the bolts as tight as I could get them with just arms and a solid bar and the leak stopped overnight. No more problems.

I am sure that at some point it may start again but for now I don't need to replace the seals.

Thanks everyone and good luck with anyone having the same issues.
