Finally got started on this a few weeks ago. It's been sitting in the yard for way too long and was sitting in someone elses yard even longer. Engine was stuck tight. What I've done so far. Started taking it down to the block with crank and pistons. What I've found: lots of rust. Finally got all the pistons out, pulled the block from the trans and got the crank out of the block. Back piston has broken land, middle piston cracked when I tried to press out the pin. So it looks like I'm gonna need some pistons. The rods have a lot of rust but the crank turned free once everything else was out. All the bearing journals on the cam and crank look like they'll clean up but the cast areas are really rusty too. Any advice on cleaning up the rust? Since I don't know the condition of the rest of the tractor I really don't want to spend $$$$ on it. I've only got about $500 in it as is plus my time to tear it down. Hoye wants $150 ea for the rods, pistons and rings will run me that much per hole too. Would polishing the rods with flap wheels be good enough or should they shot peened?
Thanks,
Marv
