What I thought was just going to be an engine overhaul has turned into a complete mechanical restoration. I pulled out the screen below the PTO shaft only to find there was little oil and a lot of gunk. So now I'm taking everything apart from the clutch back to clean it and going back with all new bearings, seals and anything else that looks like it needs replacing. I have the manuals that Hoye sells so I figured I could tell how it all goes back together from the drawings and can mostly but I have had to figure a few things out as I go. The drawings weren't exactly right.
I should know by now to take pictures.
The current problem is the 1-way clutch on the transmission main shaft that goes inside the counter gear. I didn't pay attention to how it was installed as I thought it was a roller bearing. Oops. I'm assuming that the counter gear should be operating at engine speed along with the main shaft and freewheel if the clutch shaft is turning faster which it never should. If I'm looking at it correctly the clutch shaft actually puts power to the differential while the main shaft drives the PTO.
If anyone has the same manual I have, the 1-way clutch is ref #18 in figure 48. The 1-way clutch has a lip on one end and it appears the drawing shows that to be toward the front of the tractor but it is hard to tell.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
