YANMAR F18D ELECTRICAL PROBS

HELP I WENT TOSTART IT YESTERDAY AND THE BATTERY WAS LOW SO I TOOK THE BATTERY OFF CHARGED IT AND PUT IT BACK ON. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TERMINALS BEING LOOSE BUT I FIXED THAT, PROBLEM NOW IS GLOW PLUG LIGHT DOESNT COME ON AND DIESEL GUAGE DOESNT COME ON BUT THE STARTER MOTOR WORKS FINE BUT ENGINE DOESNT START.

Electrical problems, ain't they fun.

It still appear you have some bad connections since much of your electrical system isn't working. Now if your F18D is like my F24D, there is an electrical fuel shutoff and I suspect it isn't getting any power either. Need to use a meter and find out where the power stops, i.e. measure across all connections and find where there is voltage or if you test with one of the test leads connected to ground, locate where there is voltage on the input side and no voltage on the output side.

thanks mickey I will get myself a tester.I am still concerned what I did to cause this. Could I possibly have the batteryaround the wrong way? is it a negative or positive ground system?

Haven't seen a positive ground system in MANY yrs. With a digital meter it's easy to check since they measure both positive and negative voltage.

I stupidly put the battery in the wrong way round
and thats why it wouldnt start
although the starter motor was working.... probably going the wrong way round
You probably realize I am a novice when it comes to mechanics but I do like to have a go
