Yanmar vs Deere Engines - Issues?

I'm wondering if there have been any major (or minor) problems with the Deere engine being used in the 4000 series as opposed to the Yanmars in the 2000/3000's. The Yanmars have built a pretty good reputation over the years.
I'm guessing enough Deere engines have been in use for enough hours by now to come up with some good data.
Anyone?

No problems with Deere engines. Yanmar are good too, but I wouldn't hesitate even slightly to buy a Deere engined tractor. One of the 2nd tier brands even advertises that they use a Deere engine in one of their models.

The Deere engines are excellent. They are really built for higher horsepower applications, so in the compact tractor they will last forever. Some of our fellow posters have had some needling problems with fuel deilvery systems, etc. but these motors by in large are bulletproof, and many of these issues seem to have been resolved. The Yanmar engines are great. You will not get a bad one. I have had both, and I would say the Deere motor FEELS more torquey than the Yanmar. (It is more torquey in fact). It is also much louder and smokes a little more under load. The Yanmar is smooth and quiet, but seems to require more RPM to do the same work (although it does it fine). Fuel comsumption is about the same. The Deere engine might burn a little more fuel, but the difference is minimal. Which is the better engine??? Reputation-wise, the Yanmar. Is it justified? No. The Deere engine is just as good. If your question is "do I buy a 3000 series to avoid a 4000 series with a JD engine?"; the answer would be no.
