I've been casually looking for a smaller tractor to serve as a tight-quarter machine. I saw a Yanmar for sale, and admit I was put off by the brand. However, being that it is likely the same machine as marketed by John Deere and/or Cub Cadet, I wonder if the normal off-brand worries don't exist (such as parts, support, etc.). A Yanmar surely holds less resale valve than a comparable Deere or Cadet, but short of that, any issues in owning? Comments?

Thanks - JayC

My only comment is that if you are looking at a SCUT, check for the aluminum transaxle.
There are threads on the JD forum of the aluminum transaxle blowing apart at the PTO on the 2305

You could check out the Yanmar forum on this site. It could be argued that Yanmar is the real brand. Deere & Cub just squirt their colors on them. Nothing too hard about that.
I have a Yanmar 276D. So far it's been bulletproof. That being said, some models have better support than others, so research before purchase would be a good idea.

Yanmar probably has a better parts availability than the same tractors they put together for everyone else throughout the years. It is extremely difficult to get parts through John Deere Corp. for my JD 750 which is a Yanmar tractor built in the early eighties. Getting parts for say a Yanmar 155D also built back then may be an easier acquisition such as one is able to get parts for just about any Kubota tractor as it is a base company just as Yanmar is a base company for several other brands. Yanmar makes a superlative product and one of the finest small diesel motors ever invented. They've been making compact diesels since 1933. They should probably have a higher resale value than some of the junk that's out there now no matter how its branded.
