Yanmar YM 145 ???

The YM146 was identical to the later GT14, which is what I have. I'm working on restoring it. I have had to do a lot of work to it to restore it, and I'm not done yet. I have not found a single part that I can't get yet, but I have been waiting a LOOONG time for some parts to come in from Japan. It's a good little tractor, runs well, sounds like an old John Deere 2cyl at idle. Won't be that good at pushing snow, but they did make a snowblower for it. I actually saw one for sale on ebay this winter. I ended up buying a 48" Wheelhorse snowblower that I'll be attaching to it. The tractor has 14 horsepower at 2600rpm, and came with a 48" deck standard. The PTO attachement for the rear is still available, but i've been told the 3pt kit is no longer available. It wouldn't be that hard to fab a kit if you're into fabrication though. That's what I'll be doing. I bought mine mainly as a mower tractor, since I have a much larger Oliver tractor for bucket and plowing chores. My opinion is that this is a great mower tractor, but without the 4wd and with the turf tires, it's not a real good snowplow tractor. I bought mine in Wayland Michigan (probably somewhere near you) at Stamm's equipment on a 50% off sale. It was under a grand, but it has needed some real work. Good thing I'm handy with a welder. I've seen nice GT14/YM146 in Michigan for $2500-5000. Mine's the sorriest one I looked at. I'm a sucker for the underdog I guess. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm a mechanical engineer who likes to tinker on diesels and fabricate parts, so If I ever get the thing finished, I'll post pics.

86turbodsl, sounds like quite a project. I think I might speak for others as well, but pics of work in progress and a dialog on how the restoration is going would be pretty cool to see. Of course, if you have the time! Good luck -arthr

Heh, time to work on it is hard to come by, much less make webpages about it, but I'll try and post here at milestones... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Still waiting on brakes and a few other parts. It hasn't moved in 6 months.

Not sure if the son wants the little tractor. I gave him a Cub Cadet 125 Hydro with mower deck an snow blower. It's a great mowing tractor an the snow blower can send snow into the next county but his drive is 350 feet all down hill. It works good going down but has a lot of difficulty getting back up. He thinks even with the differential lock, the Yanmar might not work much better. Unfortunately I think he maybe right...

Going to give it some thought, but I may still get the Yanmar. I have a J.D. 790 which is a Yanmar, it's a tough little tractor, I don't think a guy can have to many tractor, now to convince the wife...

If I end up getting the tractor, I'll be looking to pick your brain...

With a little help, the Cadet may well do the job. I have 1400' of driveway. No hills but a few slopes that give some trouble. Last year I blew snow with a Case 220, 10 H.P. Hydrostat. With the tires loaded and chains on it I never got stuck. It worked like a charm but I felt that it was to much work for the old 10 horse, so this year I bought a YM195D. It's a great tractor but honestly not a lot better than the case as far as blowing snow goes.

Thanks for the e-bay tip, there was several picture that could be
helpful if I get the tractor...

Yes we tried chains but the tire are small on the Cub Cadet 125,
they have a tendency to dig in and can't climb out...
As for loading that size tire, don't think it matter. If my 250lb on
the seat an my son 170lb standing on the rear hitch doesn't help,
an extra 25lb per tire won't matter...

If the driveway was black top or concrete there would be no problem
but with a stone drive, you need to run skid shoes leaving a thin
layer of snow an it's this snow when packed that the chains dig into.
The depression is sometime no more then a inch but the little tires
can't climb out...

"It works good going down but has a lot of difficulty getting back up. He thinks even with the differential lock, the Yanmar might not work much better."

I wouldn't attempt to use the differential lock to get up a 350' hill, or anything more than getting unstuck in a brief straight ahead shot. The lock is only a small pin that engages a gear and is easily sheared off, especially if you try to turn, and is a pretty extensive repair.
