yanmar ym2000 cracked or warped block

I have a ym2000 that my buddy uses to bush hog my house in maryland as I was transferred out of the state last year it over heated an he took it to the shop. They said it had a cracked head. I bought a new head and necessary parts to replace and had a friend replace. He started it up this week and said that antifreeze was leaking around one of the head bolts under the valve cover. He torqued everything iaw the manual and is a savvy marine/auto mechanic his opinion is the block is cracked or warped.

I have already purchased a new loaded head, pd for shipping, etc I don t want it to be a wash on the tractor but im running out of favors. Im 24 hours a way so working on it myself is not an option and at its at the point where I would have to pay for someone to repair or prep for machine shop.

Options? Are there used 2tr20a's available I didnt find much on google search. I need the tractor to keep grass cut in a 2 acre cleared plot and to keep trails from over growing, until I get transferred closer to maintain again.

2tr20a is the tractor version of 2Q-something marine engine so the marine world might be another source for a used block. But is it clear that it really is the block?

Sounds like your friend needs to find out what's really going on...
One would think that in cleaning the deck of the block, he'd have noticed a crack.

You might check the manual to see if the bolt that's leaking enters the cooling jacket, and needs some thread sealant that it didn't get?
My Jeep is like that, as was my 6.5L diesel. Probably many other engines too... Sure would be a simple fix to pull that bolt, put some sealant on it, and re-install it if so...

I would sure do some more investigating. I have never heard of a warped block on those engines. I have seen cracked blocks but they were from freezing not overheating. The head is held on with studs (not bolts) and they do not go into the water jacket. Is it possible that he installed the head gasket upside down? There are 2 water ports on the gasket that are not symmetrical. Not sure where the water would leak if it was installed wrong but it might leak up around those studs.

There is a guy that sells Misc. Gaskets etc. On Alt. CL. That has been advertising a 2TR20A Eng. Block. Been showing up on and off for Yrs.. I seen it again a week or so back. Complete! and Cheap!!!. Apparent he can't or hasn't found a buyer for it. Not listed again after seeing it for weeks recently but I would almost assure you he still has it.

That's him! As you can tell his Misc. parts are legit. I can't remember how much and being so close to me I've thought a couple of times if I should buy it.

Thanks for your reply, He did say that when he removed the old head gasket it appeared to be in-stalled upside down and covering a cooling port so he installed the new one where the port wasn't covered. Can you provide information on proper head gasket installation /covering cooling ports etc? Thanks Hoye for the response we did order the parts and manual from you guys
