Well this is my first post but I have been reading alot of your posts over the last several months after I got my first tractor. I recently got a Yanmar YM2200 in a trade for an atv. I have a deer lease in Georgia and I like to do foodplots and cut lanes through the woods so I thought instead of using my ATV, which did not do a good job, I would take the next step to tractor. Unfortunately I did not do any research and traded for what I am sure is a grey market VN YM2200, as the tractor and the gentleman I traded with states it only has 85 hours on it. I have purchased a 4 foot KK bush hog, a 4 foot Howse Harrow and a 5 foot tiller to be pulled by the tractor and am now concerned I don't have enough tractor for the job. I have recently been offered an opportunity to trade for a 404 International and now am unsure if I want to leave the comfort of owning a diesel tractor for a gas tractor in order to get a little more hp. That being said I have read the posts on the difficulty of finding parts for the 2200 and of course the ability to re-sale the tractor in the future. The YM looks good and runs great but all the posts about staying away from the tractor has me thinking that I might want to take this 404 IH trade just to be safe, on the other hand I see all the posts of the tractor being a workhorse and it's size makes it very managable in a pine forest. Would you make the trade?

I don't see any implements listed that will require any more hp than the Yanmar has. The 26+hp diesel will probably pretty much equal the gas engine anyway, not to mention fuel usage. Only prob may be finding some parts for the YM2200.

_ _ _ _ NO!!! It may have came from VN. and not a US model but it's still a Yanmar Built tractor. The bottom line is it prob. has some poor repairs and parts. IMO if it's mechanical it's repairable 
The problems will show up quickly most likely my YM2000 did. Get them straightened out and you should be good for yrs.

There were a few junker YM2200's on craigslist in your area a few weeks back or so, one selling for $500, If I can find it I'll post it, you would most likely find parts that way, If you can, put it up for sale and get you a more popular model yanmar.

I think that tractor is past time that anyting minor will happen and heck anything major can happen to any tractor at any hour. If its fine now thats all you need. You might not put 10 hours a year on that thing just doing trails and small plots. Its hour meter is variable. Other than a few non existant parts and some crazy repair processes like rear axle dissasembly to change seals it will probably be fine. In my experiencs the ones i saw frm VN or set to between 15-20 hours, others say 0? At 85 hours assuming it was purchased with 15 hours it has had 70 hours or 3 years maybe or one well used year since purchase.
You have at least 25 HP and my 24 hp VN ym2000 will pull my 12disk (16") 4 foot harrow fine, i actually have to pile on 300lbs or so to get it to cut good, 2 passes through an undisked area will sink the disk to the axles causing me to have to lift it partly with the 3pt to not loose traction. My 4 ft cutter is fine in grass thats 6 ft tall and can cut anything i can run over. In shorted grass you can easily use a 5ft mower and it can easily turn a 5 ft tiller.
This is a hard decision. Use it one year and try and sell it and buy a 2000 if you want and are worried? I would trade for an older gasser the fuel usage will double and so will your fuel bills. i can cut the same area as a buddy of mine can with his JD1020 and use half the deisel he uses in gas, even though deisel may be 10-20 cents more per gallon for offroad its still cheaper for me, may take longer but cheaper. The other thing is those older american tractors are heavy iron made for row cropping use all day, there would be no way i could easily load it and its sized implements on my 16 ft carhauler and tow it the 3 hours across the state to my land to use it.

This is why I love this forum!!! I learn something everyday, I forgot that I could use off road diesel!!! Plus I have a 21 foot trailer that I built from a boat trailer that works great with the 2200. I think I am going to take all your advice and just keep the tractor and see if I like what it does. It runs great and the owner stated that he really never used it much and kept it in the barn and it looks great as well, I will get some pics up next week as I am going to the lease this weekend to work with it a little. Like someone else said if I don't I can always sell it and get a different model!! Appreciate the input.
