Well, FWIW, I use "filetype:.pdf
", e.g.
"yanmar" "YRM" "48" "manual" filetype:.pdf
I avoid any result with site name that includes "manual" or "lib", as too many of those host malware, and no hit with a url that contains "cgi"

All of the big search engines use the same advanced flags.
There are many other file types available to search, but you should be aware that file types like .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx, etc. all are readily edited to contain malware.
As a final tip, a few manuals seem to only be available as images, e.g. .tiff, .jpeg, etc., so if you can't find what you are seeking as a PDF, it may be a worthwhile alternate search, especially for things like parts diagrams.
All the best,
