Hi everyone,

I've originally been looking at the Kubota tractors, haven't been super pleased with the local dealers since they just don't seem to care about the smaller guys like me... as a result, I started to look at some of the other available brands.

Took a look at the Yanmars last week and drove an SA324 and YT235. Let me tell you, the YT235 is really sweet!! Compared to the Kubota L-series, it's way more comfy, more features, smoother, easier controls! I could really see myself riding on one of those. Anyone own a YT235 would love to get insights on this.

My questions:

Are Yanmars selling? Yes, I know they OEM for Deere, but as an independent make, are they selling? The New Yanmar Forum has 560 threads (561 after this hehe) vs Kubota pricing+owning forums have 11863+33376 threads. Big difference, especially when you look at posts.

It's also concerning that there aren't any availability in parts outside of your local dealer, so looking for deals on parts should you need them just aren't available. Mods, after market kits, etc are scarce.

My local dealer is 45 minutes away, vs 15 minutes to Kubota/Deere/Mahindra/Branson. They've been in business for 3-4 years and I saw 2 people walk in during the 2-3 hours I was there. I have to say though, I really liked them, best guys I've met so far at a dealership. Father-son duo. Next closest dealer is about 2 hours away which is way too far.

Last thing I want to do is buy a great tractor but have to worry about the future. I know it's hard to predict the future, but without overall availability of resources, owners, parts, etc it's looking like too much of a leap of faith.

Any YT235 owners out there? How do you guys feel about all this? Any one felt this way, what did you end up selecting?

Yanmar has been building Diesel engines in Japan since 1912. They’re a huge industrial engine manufacturer especially in the marine and construction industries. Instead of building tractors and engines for other companies they’ve decided build and market their own tractors for the North American market. Given their 100+ year history, technical know-how, and global presence, I don’t think you’ll ever have trouble finding parts for a Yanmar product.

The YT235 is way nicer than a standard L Kubota. I plan on getting a YT235 cab tractor myself. Move forth and have no fear. Yanmar builds a great product.

I just bought a YT359C.

The dealership that I bought from also sells Kubota. The owner said he took on Yanmar just to have a second tractor line and because he knew they were quality machines.

He said they were selling quicker than the Kubotas on his lot and had far exceeded their expectations on them.

I also talked to the head of their service department and he said it was a lot easier to work on the yanmars too and he's been totally impressed with them.

They're supposed to be releasing a 70 something HP unit and a 90 HP unit soon. Yanmar will kill it in the 70HP utility tractor market with the IHMT transmission.

I have a 235. I agree that the dealer makes or breaks any tractor deal. My local dealer has been great. I would point out that other tractor makers, not just Deere, use the Yanmar engines. The product is far more wide spread than just the Yanmar brand and non model specific parts should be easy to find. I have had to have the dealer order one part because it was not in their stock. It took five days to arrive from the warehouse. I would also say that the part and the labor was covered under warranty without question. They do back their products.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ya, I figured this shouldn't be too much of a leap of faith :)

Pricing question- What are you guys seeing for the YT235? Local dealer is asking $23k for the tractor and 60" front loader. B75 Backhoe is $8059 + $418 for the 9" bucket.

They are recommending Agriease for the rotary mower, tiller, box scraper. Haven't seen too many posts on these, if you have thoughts please chime in.

Thanks again for all the advice!!

I was quoted $22K for a YT235 ROPS and $27K for a YT235 Cab in Virginia. Check out Everything Attachments for your implements. They build great products in North Carolina and ship for free up to 1000 miles. You’d have to check and see what shipping would cost to Cali.

Comparing the Kubota L series to the Yanmar YT series is like comparing apples to oranges. I found the L series to very stripped down and bare bones. The YT series has the bells and whistles you'd expect at the price point. I like Kubota's too but I found Yanmar to be the best bang for my dollar when comparing them to JD, Kubota and NH.

Just like @Tractorable said, they've been in the game along time and make a very reputable diesel engine. Personally, I'm not worried about longevity or the product having major issues x hours down the road. I had a Yanmar built JD 770 with 1400 hours when I sold it and I never had a drop of problems out of that tractor. That was the biggest reason I bought another Yanmar, they make a quality product.

I have had my YT359 for about 1.5 years. Its got about 400 hrs on it now. I love it. If Yanmar does make one a little bigger in abiut 7 years when i am ready for another tractor i could easily go a litter bigger. But the 59 is doing everything i need it to.

Same here. Left A. Carraro as they don't make a model that fits in the same HP category. I was sold on the IHMT transmission. Boy does it save the knees from all that shifting. Tranny with a brain. YT359C is great. Parts quickly too, even from Japan when you have something break that is not in the U.S. warehouse.
The only thing I miss is the Carraro ground hugging capacity with the Actio rotational function.
And guess what engines Carraro uses? Yup, Yanmar!
