Yanmar

Has anyone have any experience or knowledge of Yanmar products? I am looking to purchase a new Yanmar B17 mini-excavator and I am wondering if this is good equipment. I have always had Kubota equipment. I would appreciate any information.

I have an older Yanmar 276, 2wd, 27HP tractor which has proved to be very reliable. Yanmar is not that popular, but they have been around for a while, and make a lot of engines for other manufacturers and other applications (i.e. sailboats). I believe for a while they used to make some of the engines for the smaller JD tractors.

Certainly not as much name recognition as jd, kubota, nh, but my guess is they are a pretty solid machine.

Yanmar made all of the JD compact tractors till the 4000 series. The 4100 is built by Yanmar. The rest of the series use Yanmar engines. Yanmar sold tractors in the US till 10 years ago. Yanmar products are well built.

YANMAR is owned by JD acording to my local JD dealer. And they make ALL the engines for tractors in the entire 4000 series, 790, 990 etc. Just priced 4600-had Yanmar motor.

Jon S--you and I are on a similar path.

If you have a moment, take a look over at the Construction Equipment topic, where I and others have posted extensively on the small excavators. It just so happens that the US Yanmar excavators are distributed about 30 mi from me, and I have met the President, Ken Byrd, Wakita Capital. First class so far and though Yanmar is not owned by JD to my knowledge, I believe they make quality equipment. Their relationship w/ JD goes back 25 yrs, I hear. I can deal direct with Wakita since they don't have a dealer in this area yet, plus they are bringing in and refurbishing some gray market machines.
