Just replaced the steering gear box on a yanmar ym 2200. The difference is when trying to put the pitman arm back on. Can’t seem to seat it down on the splines as far as the old original one that I took off. Is the shaft on the new one tapered? Bought it from hoye tractors. Guy couldn’t help me there. In the pictures it just doesn’t look like it’s in there enough.

How are trying to seat it? It should be tapered and the nut should seat it enough when you tighten it up.

the arm is cooked on the shaft. I'd run it up with the nut to get it square and on farther.

Tried it with the nut. That’s as far as I can get it to go. Angle of the phone I guess makes it appear lower in the front.

How tight are you tightening the nut? When you remove the nut can you you remove the pitman arm with you hands?

That nut should be really tightened down. I normally use an impact wrench on those. The arm should require a puller to remove.

Tried the impact. That’s as tight as the impact will get it. No can’t pull it off by hand. You think it could be tapered that much? Thanks

It is possible but if it is tight then it should work just fine. Do you know how much of the splines are in the arm? Should be more than half way at least. If it is, I would not worry about it.
