YCT-306
Hi, I am rebuilding a YCT-306S-6 and am struggling to find information on how the alternator is wired. There appear to be no markings on the alternator itself and the manual is not clear. It appears I have 4 wires: red, brown and two blacks. The alternator has 4 screw posts on the back. Any information or photos of the correct wiring would be most appreciated.

Is this the stock 14 amp TEFC alternator?

Ok Michael, I'll assume you have the original alternator. As always, a picture is worth a thousand words. There are a couple of different schematics for these dozers. It would be helpful to know which one you have, and a pic of the alternator terminals would be invaluable. I'll blindly throw this at you to see if it helps. This is pretty much how my dozer was originally wired. Need more clarification?

You're welcome.

Hi Bob, many apologies I completely missed this thread. I assume it is orginal. I have attached photos for your reference. I have included a photo of what I believe the connections should be. The problem I was having with the schematic was that I was not confident of the physical connections and don't want to damage anything.

The two black wires are the electrical ground path, and appear to be installed correctly on the voltage regulator base. I can't tell if they are correctly installed on the alternator, but they should be on an uninsulated terminal or the case itself (like on that Phillips screw). If you look closely at the terminals, brush them off a little, you should see how they are marked (look for a "F", and maybe a + and -).
