Everything folks have said about a tooth bar making it act like a different tractor is spot on! I was sure when I built this I "needed" it to be removable but I haven't taken it off since the test install even to paint it:)

I was going to do the top 1/4" retaining bar like some of the others I've seen here but got to thinking that my little bucket would probably bend pretty easy if I caught a root with a middle tooth. I decided to take the wear edge off of a cheap 4' rear blade I don't use and make something that would stiffen up the leading edge a bit.

I found a local wear parts suplier that services the coal mines that has bin after bin of adapter shanks and teeth in stock. I found some "23 series" adapter shanks that fit the two wear edges and welded them to the top piece. The whole thing slides on from the front and is retained by two 3/8-16 allen head bolts that are recessed in the 2nd and 4th shanks through two holes in the bucket and treaded into the top wear edge.

I've beaten on it pretty hard for the last few weeks and it and the bucket have held up well.

Couldn't have done it without all of the great info on TBN..Thanks!

What holds it on?

There are two 3/8-16 allen head bolts that come up through two of the shanks (recessed) through the bucket and are treaded into the top wear bar. I was going to put a bolt through all of the adapters at first but figured I'd try it with two and see if it needed more. It seems fine. The only force the bolts see is keeping the bar from coming off the front of the lip as the shanks take all of the other forces.
