I am replacing the bearings in the alternator due to dust, dirt and bits of grass collecting inside the alternator. The bearings had got noisy but were still tight didn't let the rotor rub the windings. However, the dirt and stuff has polished off the green coating on about half of the ends on the stator.
I know this sounds like the bearings were letting the rotor rub the windings, but I got a lot of dirt out of it and the magnets aren't gouged or scored at all, so I really think all the the dirt was polishing things as it spun around. dirt was packed all around the magnets. Any suggestions if the ends need to be recoated (painted?) before I put it all back together? If they need painted, what should I use?
I got probably 3 tablespoons of dirt and stuff out of the inside of it.
Also can you still get any parts for the YCM-60A finish deck? I need the cogged sheave on the opposite end the discharge chute.
