Hello,

Anyone know how much they will lift on the rear 3ph?

About to make a frame for some forks but wanted to know what capacity would be left once I had taken the weight of the frame and forks from the total capacity.

Thanks.

Opinion only based on earlier research. Did not come out of a book or manual. 717# 24" behind the pins. This is worth what you paid for it. :D

Thanks Winston1. I Make that 325kg in UK units. Its definitely worth what I paid for it as it is awesome!

I am trying to work out what pallet forks might lift and whether I should get rid of the old forklift forks that I have which are very heavy and build some with Steel box or channel as it will be lighter.
I am already going to build a 3ph frame to take the forks and have a tow ball on it as I have seen someone else's on here which looked like a good multi tool frame.

Anyone have one that knows or has used steel rather than real forks?

Thanks.

Here's what I cobbled together out of scrap - old bedframe iron and a couple of pieces of relay rack (radio transmitter chassis) channel iron. It looks light weight but I've never bent it, on tractors both smaller and larger than yours. The light weight is convenient. I can easily carry it from where I store it and lift it onto the Quick Hitch. I could have built it with lift pins but this is more convenient to mount for small jobs.

There's a description and more photos linked from this thread. In one of the photos I have nearly 500 lbs carried 2 ft out on the forks. That linked thread also shows others' designs.

Typical use. Weight unknown, but this mulch bin tends to lift the nose of the tractor when raised.

Hi California,

Can you tell me how thick the channel is? 5mm thick steel?

Looks great, I'd like something manageable as the forks I have need 2 people to lift them.

Thanks.

Channel is 3 5/8 mm. I'm funn'in ya :D. - it measured 3.678mm. If you have to buy the material, 4mm channel might be sufficient for a lightweight frame like this. The scrap bedframe uprights are 2.8mm. And the spacer at the top which engages the QH's top hook is simply a piece of 3/4" (US Standard) water pipe.

Not obvious in my photos is a 12mm (measured) x 300?mm flat bar that goes from one fork to the other at ground level and wraps around the outer edge of each fork to go forward maybe 1500mm on each side. You can see the welds for this once you know what to look for. I already had this piece and its width was just right for this project. This carries a lot of the stress that would otherwise tend to tear the forks loose from the uprights.

I lifted the assembly when I measured the channel today, and estimate the whole thing is 40 lbs or less.

Hi,

Yeah I can see the weld of the flat bar to strengthen it. Thanks.

Not sure it goes forward 1500mm though! That is 60"

Its tough this imperial to metric and back again stuff!

Thanks for your help.

Oops 150mm. About 1.2 times the width of my hand.

Obviously, we don't think in metric at all over here. We should have converted long ago. Carpentry (I once had a Union card) is a nightmare, for example figuring the midpoint or equal thirds of some random distance measured in ft/inches/odd fractions.

We still work in both, imperial for weight and height of a person as everyone understands that.

But metric for everything else, and that's if you're my age (33) or below. When I describe something to my parents or anyone in the generation before me I have to mentally calculate into ft and inches so they understand.

It's daft, I expect in another generation we will be completely metric.

I think I'm going to sell the forks as they are so heavy, I'll make a set with channel or box. Whichever I can find or get hold of first.

Thanks.

Don't forget UK road marking are still in imperial too. Yards to the next junction, mph speed limits, feet and inches for bridge clearance. Why we didn't just go all out metric I've no idea, instead of this halfway house.
