I have two places where water is just barely leaking out from the head gasket. Just a little dribble. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Is there anything that will stop this or do I have to put on a new head gasket?
Is there any danger to me running the tractor until I get it fixed?
Thanks

Meisal,

There are currently a few really well designed 2 part system chemicals that can be added via the radiator. "Thermagasket" is one that has a 90% success rate. Carbon-metal alloy.

But, there is no substitute for head gasket replacement. If you use your tractor, even under moderate load, the present flaw will travel in the opposite direction and can fill oil passages or combustion chamber and create porosity, scoring on the cylinder wall or a siezed engine. Eventually trouble no matter what.

BTW, that Thermagasket application for diesel engines is $160. You can buy head gasket and all related fluids for less, and have the peace of mind that your beast is well and ready for work. Good Luck, Mark

You might try radiator "stopleak", although it sometimes will plug radiator passages. A longshot might be to check headbolt torque.

Without a circulating pump.. I doubt a liquid or semisolid addative will do good.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

soundguy,
Your absolutely right. It never even occured to me that his is thermosiphon. Waste of money on additives

Thanks for your input folks. The tractor is under warranty so I'll get a new gasket put on. I just towed it 330 miles down south Louisiana because I just don't have time right now to work on my property in North Louisiana. Oh well - I guess I get to use my new trailer again! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

? Do you think it would be cheaper than $100 worth of gas if I just change it out myself? I'm sure I can get my dealer to just give me the parts.

Meisal,

Will the dealer authorize you to make all necessary repairs and still honor you warranty down the road?

In some respects, If you do the repair yourself, you have the opportunity to examine the rocker and vlave train, push rods lifters and cylinder walls. In other words you get to challenge the hour meter and dealer integrity.

I suspect the dealer wans't even aware of the water leak, however if the trip back is not too inconvienent, it may become a loophole the dealer has unless he does the repair.

Mark
