Hello

I was doing some tilling last evening and when I finished I noticed fluid leaking from the hydraulic pump. I appears to be the front of the pump, away from the engine. There appears to be a front plate on the pump that is removable. I've looked in the parts breakdown and the shop manuals but they all show the pump as a single item... Am I hosed???

With the weather moving in last night, I didn't get a chance to run back out and see if its just a matter of the screws coming loose.

IMHO the leak is not serious, but not a minor one either.

Thoughts???

My YM240 parts catalog, Pub # 000Y00T2381 has a part breakdown. There is an "o" ring, part # 24341=000480 under that plate, Probably a standard "O" ring.

Need more info so we don’t spend all day guessing. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Is it leaking where the suction pipe goes in or where the pressure line comes out or on the end plate of the pump? It is not uncommon for the suction or the pressure line machined faces to leak and look like it is coming from a different location. Dont tear into the pump out in the field if you can help it.

To the best of my abilities, It looks like the fluid is coming from one of the screw holding the plate on...

I should have mentioned that several times during my tilling, I raised the attachment to its max height. Could this have any effect on the hydro system???

Theroretically it shouldn't hurt lifting to full height. I have noticed that some tractors pull down when the lever is at full height meaning the relief valve may not be opening as much as it should.

Hello

I finally had a chance to run an operational test. I cleaned the pump up and started her up. I lifted the tiller and left it about midway up and the pump looked fine. I then ran the 3 pt. up all the way and the pump started leakin from one of the allen bolts that hold the front plate on...

I lowered the lift and let it stand about midway and the leak slowed, then stopped...

Now whats my options???

And to save any potential replies of "Doctor, my arm hurts when I do this..." I'll not run the 3 pt. up to max anymore.

Dave, here is a (sort of) scan of that pump from the YM240 parts book. Big O ring (9)is #24341-000480. Small ones (8) are all#24315-000200. It looks like the big O ring is inside the mounting bolts so it must be leaking. I would order the O rings and then take it apart when you get them.
