I have a leak where the axle tube meets the diff. Will the axle tube come off by removing the outer bolts or is there something inside that has to be removed?
I think you may be able to just pull just the housing but we always remove the axle shaft first. Just remove the PTO assembly, remove the (super tight) bolt that holds the bull gear to the axle shaft & pull out the axle. It is just a lot easier (in our opinion) to do it that way.
Thanks Aaron, The axle seal is leaking also and will be replaced. After the hub, axle seal, collar and housing bolts are removed, will the housing slide off of the axle without removing the PTO?
I think you may be able to but I'm not sure. We never do it that way. The PTO is very easy to remove. It just comes out as a complete assembly all bolted together.
Thanks Aaron, I was trying to help a guy with this but I couldn't get the hub off and didn't want to be responsible for breaking something. So, I sent him to a full time-tractor mechanic. I gave him your contact info for parts.
