Long time without posting. I was doing something I knew in shouldn't have, and ended up shearing off the little 3/8" round stock piece that shifts the hi/lo gears. I've been having some issues with it pulling any load while in high. It would usually just pop out of high so fast that it went straight into low. My local dealer went out of business around the time of the Japan tsunami and I haven't needed any advice or parts since then. So now I've got myself into a bind. Luckily Hoye had what I needed. I ordered two of the broken pieces, two O-rings that fit it, and two air filters. But they didn't arrive until after I had to leave for several weeks of work.

I'll post pics when I get to the repair work. The piece showed signs that it had been broken about 1/3 through for some time when I finally got it fished out with a magnet. This would be the cause of the previous issue prior to breaking off.

Now the questions. For a YM2000, I shouldn't have to split it or remove any more than the gear shifter and cover underneath? It appeared to be enough room to just align everything and slide it right in. Also, would it be a good idea to weld some lateral beads/gussets onto this part before permanently installing? I know it's a small tractor, but a piece of bent round bar welded to the pivot shaft doesn't seem very sturdy.

Thanks for any advice as it will be welcome.

I called myself searching for a similar issue. I'll update some pics when I can.

Something must be missing in this process. Years ago guys used to post about replacing the Hi/Lo shifter in a YM2000 with no mention of grinding or excessive teardown.

I wouldn't think it'd need grinding. I'll see when I get time to fix it. Why make a $15 part that is prone to breaking be that difficult to replace?

If it won't go through the hole without moving gears it would need grinding. That is unless you want to take it apart and remove the gears. Pretty sure YanmarDoug has been there, done that.

Waited a month to finish this project due to work. Check the parts and Hoye ended up sending me the wrong pieces. No big deal since the shipping was just a few days. Excellent customer service despite the long delay on my part checking. Does not take away from the experience of online shopping with them. I'll highly recommend them. I needed the one on the left. image-2772812720.jpg Next to remove the old one. I ended up shearing off the lever and had to cut off that end to drive it through to the inside. No problem. image-1889847833.jpg It doesn't work this way. But this showed me it was gonna need grinding. image-3857097164.jpg Used my Dewalt with the same cut off wheel used on the old one to take off the corner. This allowed enough room to get it in the hole and drive it the rest of the way. Just some dead blow taps from a 2lb shop hammer. I'd hate to crack the cast iron. image-1185173881.jpg Here it is in. image-2140988896.jpg Bottom line...it'll have to cut down or ground down some to fit easily. But, it still doesn't want any type of load when in high. That'll be looked into next.
