Got my YM 2210 and have used it twice with a 5 foot finish mower. The first time the weather was cool, about 50 or so and every thing seemed fine. Today it was near 80, and it kept blowing antifreeze out the overflow bottle. The idiot light never did come on, but from time to time I would stop and check the water level, and after letting it cool off, top it off with coolant.

I was running the engine between 1800-2000 RPM, and not dogging it at all. The grass wasn't high, and I was running in third range, 2nd on the Power Shift (which I really, really like). When I slowed down the engine and stopped for a while, it would cool down fairly quick.

Is this common on these units? I'm calling the dealer tomorrow, and see what they say.

Other than that, I am well pleased.

No it's not common . Do you know if the light or temp,. sensor works or not ? If you don't know you need to have them checked . You don't want to run the engine so hot that it boils over b-4 the light comes on ( if the light works ) Radiator/ screen may need cleaning But, get the light working or put a gauge on the tractor.

Sounds like a bad head gasket.

Norm, You may be right . Blown head gasket allowing compression / exhaust to blow back into the cooling system. Let's hope not. It sounds like he just got the tractor

when I took the cap off there didn't seem to be any compression coming out of the radiator.

Well, make sure your high temp warning light/ system is working properly & check the rad. & screen

If the radiator cap isn't holding pressure, that could cause the symptoms you're describing. I'm not sure what temperature is supposed to trigger the overtemp light, but I'm fairly sure it's above the boiling point of water at atmospheric pressure. So with no pressure on the cooling system, you'd get boil over before the light came on. Test or replace the radiator cap.

If you loosen/remove the radiator cap while the engine/coolant is hot, you'll definitely know if it was holding pressure.

I advise avoiding touching the radiator cap until the engine cools down. If you do loosen the cap with a hot engine, and the cap is holding pressure, you could get a face full of scalding water when the pressure is released and a portion of the coolant flashes to steam. Pressurized caps are designed to relieve the pressure before they can be completely removed, but I've never trusted that safety feature.

Replace the radiator cap 13# if that dosen't fix it, take it back to the dealer. The temp sending unit is set to turn the light on @ 212 and off @ 198.

Check the radiator cooling slots. May be plugged. Flush out slots with mild hose spray. Also: Check for the correct antifreeze/water mixture ratio. Could be wrong from the dealership.

New radiator cap seems to have cured the problem. Thanks all.
