I recently purchased a YM 2210D. I purchased an operators manual from Hoyle Tractor. In this manual it states you should not use the decompression lever to stop the engine. The manual indicates the tractor should shut down when you turn the key off and remove the key, however, the tractor continues to run when the key is removed. I noticed the dealer used the decompression lever to shut the tractor down when he demonstrated the tractor. The only other way I know of to stop a diesel is to shut the fuel off. Does anyone know what the risk is of using the decompression lever? Do I have a wiring problem? Is there another way to shut the tractor down that I am unaware of?

Thanks for the help.

You can't shut your tractor off by using the key. The diesels that use a keyed shut off have a solenoid that cuts off the fuel supply. To shut your tractor off push the hand throttle all the way forward. If that will not shut the tractor off, then the linkage of the hand lever needs to be adjusted. Opening the decompression lever will sure enough kill the engine but I would never do it. Good way to mess up the valve train from what I have been told.

When you push the throttle towards idle you should feel a slight detent. That is the idle position. Pushing it past that point should shut it down. Do like Brent says and adjust it to an idle at the detent point and stall out at full off.

Help!!!
I bought a YM2210D and I find oil in the transmition??
On the transmition there is a filler cap that says "oil"???? Does it take oil or Hydrolic fluid in transmition? The Hydrolic line comes out of the case right near the "oil" filler cap.
My other tractor IH 454D takes Hytran fluid. I am ordering the manuals for it, but need to know sooner than that.
One other qwestion I have a leak on the PTO drive shaft where the seal is. Is this just a simple seal replacement???
Do I take off the cover and get the seal out or is it more complicated thatn that. Are there any special pullers I need.
Is it a standard part or a special YM one?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Any special things to know about these tractors as I am not a very experianced tractor guy.

Thank you for time and info.

Check out the thread "Hydro fluid for a 1720." That will answer your hydro fluid question.
As for your seal question, I think it is a simple fix. I recommend you contact one of the dealers in this forum and get a parts manual. Also, you should take the time to read all the posts in this forum. This is forum undoubtedly the best source of information about Yanmars.
Welcome aboard.

Yanmar recomends John Deere 303 hyd oil, the seal is held in with a snap ring, easy to change. I have the seals in stock as well as most anything else for the YM2210D.
