When using my bush hog, I can engage the clutch and the tractor will continue to pull for a few of seconds - it only does it when using my bush hog. Anybody know why this occurs.

quailman you need a Override Clutch or some people call the a slip clutch. This fits on your PTO shaft and acts with a ratching mechanism, so when you push in the clutch, your tractor stops. The way its set up now your bush hog is pushing your tractor. Usually you have to cut off your PTO shaft about 5 or 6 imches when you add one of these. I'm surprise a dealer selling you a tractor and cutter and not added one of these in the deal.

I usually hear them referred to as an "Overrun coupler". A slip clutch is a toatlly different animal that is used to prevent damage to the tractor or bush hog. Your 2310 does not have a live PTO or two stage clutch, that is why the tractor continues to move. The reason it happens only with the bush hog is because those big heavy blades carry more inertia than any other equipment that connects to the PTO. You can get an overrun coupler at a Tractor Supply Company store. There are 2 types. One goes on semi permenantly with a roll pin and the other goes on and off quickly just like a regular PTO drive line. Do yourself a SAFETY favor and get one.

Where does a slip clutch mount?

I've heard there is two ways to prevent PTO gear box damage, one is by a shear pin and the other is a slip clutch.

One dealer suggested I have both for protection.

Do you need a an overrun device, if you have a slip clutch?

Sorry, I'm new at this.

Thx David...

The over run coupler is a big ratchet. If you have ever ridden a 10 speed bike you know that when you pedal you drive the rear wheel and when you are not pedal you hear a clicking sound and the pedals aren't rotating. The overrun coupler does the same thing. When you have the overrun coupler attached and press the clutch the blades of the bush hog continue to spin until they run out of momentum but the overrun coupler starts free wheeling between the bush hog and the tractor.

A slip clutch works like a regular clutch, put enough load on it and it will eventually slip. They are made so that if you hit something hard like a stump the slip clutch will "slip" and prevent damage to the bush and more importantly the tractor. If you have a sheer bolt and a slip clutch, I think the slip clutch would be money wasted. The bolts would sheer before the clutch could do it's job.

Brent - I've tried ever variation of overrun, override clutch and coupler and can't find either doing a search on the Tractor Supply website. Can you help me with another name for this part? Thanks, William

I can supply you with an overrunning clutch that fastens just like your pto shaft attaches to the tractor. Since the overrunning clutch adds several inches to your pto shaft, you need to make sure your implement pto shaft will not bottom out when raising or lowering the implement. If it does it will have to be shortened.

You are right, I looked it up in the Tractor Suppy Cat. and it is called a overrunning pto coupler. But when I went to their web site, it says there is no such thing. Looks like they need to fix their web site. I wonder how many other things it don't show and they lose the sale for?? But the stores do carry them if you have one close.

It appears that TSC has eliminated their catalog from their website and only shows a few items now, no PTO parts at all. I guess it matters not, since you can't order from the catalog or website anyhow, but must go to a store. valu-bilt lists one, but not the quick detach one that you would want.
