Hello Friends

I have just had a bad experience with a guy who resprayed and do a bit of renovation my YM240. But that is another story.

He took the starter off and was going to have something done to it, (although in my mind it was working every time I turned the key.) Then it was discovered that the starter was "bad" and needed to be replaced.

Bottom line my YM240 came home with a BAD paint job, and a YM330, starter on it…

Now I can not get my Baby to start, and my new battery after a full weekend on trickle charge goes dead after 4 tries to start it.

Does anyone know if a 330 starter is “wrong” for a 240? It bolts up ok, and fits ok, but are the RPMs the same and what about how much it amps or current “draws” compared to the 240?

Don’t forget I am in AR Hillbilly in AFRICA, so parts are a bit hard to come by…

Thanks
Jared

Jared, The YM330 starter is a bit larger and draws a few more amps, but should not make a good battery go dead. You should have a Group 24 battery, which will crank either model. I would suspect a short in the wiring which would drain the battery while setting between uses. To find out; remove battery from tractor and trickle charge for 24 hours, then leave is sit for a week before testing with a battery tester, or put it back in the tractor and try starting. If the tractor cranks good the battery is probably good and is being drained only while in the tractor, leading back to a short in the wiring.
Sorry this is so long, but this is the easiest way for you.
Finding where the short is, will be a whole nother matter.
Where in Africa are you? I am part owner of a ranch in the OFS in S.A. Gary J.

We are in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, just down from the Orange Free State.

There are NOT many Yanmars in South Africa, and all I have seen are the US import model numbers like 240 and 276, not the Gray numbers...

I see a Dieter Lubbe from S.A. on some of the sites, maybe you guys could e-mail each other and help one another find the parts you need. He is at deiterlubbe@hotmail.com. Gary J. at Jamtrac2002.
