Anyone know if parts are still availlable for a YM122? Am told it is a single cylinder diesel "lawn tractor".

For $600, I would buy it, if I lived in the area. You can always find tires, and fix/find a radiator.

Yea, I know. But I have a problem with trying to put things back like they should be and would be on the verge of restoration. Wife calls me ****. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money but have the labor and skill.
Mower deck would have me the most worried. With out a good deck, it would be useless.

you might ask danny parker if parts will be hard to find for this tractor, ie mower deck parts ,pulleys ,etc.

Just my opinion but if you are looking to do a restoration of any kind I would pick another model. Parts availability is not good on that model. If I recall correctly, I dont even think you can get really common parts like a head gasket for it. It would be a challenge though :) .

Deck parts are getting scarce on all Yanmar models. Most deck parts are no longer available direct through Yanmar. You should be able to adapt off the shelf pulleys, belts, blades, etc though. I think Ingersoll built most of the Yanmar decks so you might also be able to contact them directly.

Hi Chuck, Welcome to TBN. I do not know anything about your model, but it sounds like the engine is locked up. The "whine" is probably the starter with full current draw and rapid heating. Do not do this as it will cook the starter. The click is the solenoid engaging. The high current can weld the solenoid to the contacts so it is best to see why this is happening.

It is possible that it is not the engine, but rather the starter, or simply a low battery. First I would check to see if the engine is free. If the trans is in neutral and someone pull the compression release, you may be able to rotate it with the fan blade. At any rate that is the first thing to check can you turn the engine over by hand. If you can turn it over by hand through a couple of revolutions then check the charge of the battery (you should do that anyway.) With a full battery, try it again with the compression released.

If you cannot turn the engine by hand then you need to know why. Will it turn in one direction and not the other? Pull the valve cover and check if the valves are free to move.

You added to an old thread. It would be best for you to start a new thread with your question. You will get more responses and better answers. Again welcome.

That is a starting place for you.

Mike
