I had my R/H bearing collapse today while i was slashing, bad wobble. pulled the hub off to find about 1/2 of the outer still there but only the rear carrier-no race and maybe a bit of hub damage.if there was a seal there is no sign of it.i think the hub will be OK as where the bearing sits it appears snug still but the seal wont stay. i found a thread that mentions using sealed bearings for this application but do you still use a seal? does anyone have a part #? i found 6204 and 6205 but are these sealed or open? i am going to run the mig over the carriers to get something to bite onto to remove them from the hub as they are flush-not able to get the punch on them for removal. i also think it had minimal grease on the rear bearing as it was just plain ole grease, not EP or bearing grease just multi-purpose and jammed the cap full of it then stuck it on.

I have heard of this kind of thing happening to these tractors and been a bit concerned myself, especially after installing the FEL, I have wondered if anyone has tried installing grease Zerks in the bearing caps? Kinda like what you see in boat trailers (bearing buddy's,)
actually I thought about replacing them with the bearing buddy's although they are to small to fit the hub. I do know the best way to get grease into the bearing is to pack them and I have the cheap dome plastic tool, but having a way to give them a shot every now-n-then got to help this area as would be any other area that requires grease,

I ordered on line 2 6204-2RS and 2 6205-2RS bearings delivered to my door for $23 AUD. it would be about the only commonly available item for this tractor!

Here are a couple of pics of what is left! first photo has remainder of inner and outer bearing and a pile of ground up metal and grease, you can see the multi purpose grease in pic 2 and the stub survived. only a bit of damage to the seal cover and run area but i am not going to run a seal anyway so it doesnt matter about that surface.

So do you have a FEL on your 1500? I can see in the pictures the bearings are destroyed but it looks like there were still grease on them, I would have thought with even minimal amount of any kind of grease this would not have happen unless the grease became contaminated or under very heavy load like with a FEL, or if this were possibly one of them refurbished yanmars? if so then well you know the rest of the story:(

Ahhh Yep, that would be a yes on both occasions. i have a loader on it and i believe it is a Vn recon Yanmar.although some of the reports i have read and photos of some of them i have seen mine is nowhere near as rough as any of them,i did find silly things like loose bolts everywhere and possibly wrong fluids in it but thats it, its a great little tractor.

well now I do relize with this happening to your tractor that it may well can happen to mine, now with me having installed a FEL, The thing about the Refurbed tractor was ment that if there were a bearing issue from the refurb then they would have most likely as you stated packed the cap full of new grease and let it slide, No punn intended;) and never bother to install a new bearing and once you put the extra weight on it then it wound up finishing off the bearing, these tractors are not like cars or trailers that will ever see speeds fast enough that heat up the grease to melt it down, so I couldn't see as to how would ever loose the grease in that mannor... so the idea I had of the zurk fitting may not be worth the effort..
in your case it was probably most likely the weight issue from the loader as will be with mine if ever have bearing problems,

i pulled the carriers out of the hub today and found a 1mm spacer between the hub and inner carrier.looking at the hoye picture it should be between the bearing and the seal? is this part of the cause? doing some measurements it appears that it needs to be where it was otherwise the bearings could float due to the possibility that it may not tension up as the nut can strike home on the spindle. i would reuse them but it was destroyed in the carrier removal process. have to try and locate another 2 of them.
