OK so I feel a little foolish here. But everyone here always helps so I figure I'll ask before I break something.

I was changing my tranny fluid on a 1500. I removed the three bolts holding the "banjo" bolt cover to the back right of the tranny case. The cover comes off easily and I can see and feel the mesh suction screen. Problem is it does not want to budge. I tried wigglin. gigglin, twistin, and even some cursin. But it does not want to come out. I even left a plate of milk and cookies...nope, it would not crawl out either.

So before I get rougher...am I doin it all wrong? Should I also remove the flat cover on the left side of the tranny case? That cover is directly across from the banjo bolt cover. Or do I just need to be more persuasive? This tractor is so easy to work on but this little screen seems to be a bit stubborn.
Again, any help would greatly appreciated

Hummm....seems to me your doing it all right. I've removed them on both of my tractors (both Yanmars) and they just came right out with finger pressure.

Your right on "how much pressuer" they will take....there somewhat stout....but wouldn't take alot of pulling or pushin' to mess one up.

ok......so can I have my milk and cookies now?

I know that at least on some Yanmar tractors the screen is removed from the opposite side from the suction line. If I were you, I would take off that other cover and take a look from that side. It may be the answer, and certainly is better than damaging the screen.

JDmar,
Be very careful the 1500 has a spring inside the screen & they tear easily! Remove the cover on the other side & proceed catiously. Dont ask how I came across this info /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The screen on my 1500 comes out from the left side. Also need to remove the left rear tire/rim assembly. I found out the hard way and thanks to Buck at EFC for giving me the correct info.

As usual, thanks to all for all the great advice. As soon as I can get an hour or two free I will remove the left side too and see what happens. The reason I didn't do that initially is selfish...I just repainted it and didn't want to mess it up if I didn't need to. I also thought that if I place a firmly fitting socket in the "mouth" of the screen I may be able to add a little "wiggle force" with less chance of deforming the rim...just one idea anyway.

I am sure the screen will be filthy. I'll let you all know how it goes when I finally get to it...busy weeks coming up here.
