I believe I am going to take the advice of others that are experienced with Yanmar tractors and purchase a YM1610. Are there any drawbacks that I should know about? The dealer nearby offers a 6 month warranty and it looks like the parts list on this model includes nearly everything that could ever be needed. Please post any positive or negative comments on this model. Thanks John

I am sure you already know this, but the small operator platform and getting on and off is a real pain....But once your on the tractor it's hardly noticeable.

No, I didn't know that. I have not seen the tractor. That may present a problem for my father that is 70, blind, but he will find a way to get on it. Thanks for the post. I will look at it first. John

If you have big feet the biggest problem is rotating your foot as you step across the operators area. There is no roon to pivot. Sprained ancle is a danger. I purchased a 2020 instead of a 16xx because there was a lot more room.

Does the 1700 model have more leg room?

I have a 1700 and it has plenty of foot and leg room for me but, I am only 5'8". I believe it is a larger frame than the 1610.

Thanks. How long have you had the 1700 model and are you happy with it? Does it have a water pump? John

I purchased my tractor in November and so far I have been happy with it. The 1700's are quite common. It does not have a water pump. The only issue I have had is the temp sensor went bad and I replaced it with a guage. I also replaced the oil pressure light with a guage as well. There is a thread on this board about that experience.

I have a 1610D and yes it is somewhat difficult to get on due to the small footboards. But im 260 lbs or so with size 12 clodhoppers and i manage. After a day of climbing up and down though - ive had a workout.

Another minor complaint i have is it takes quite a bit of steering force. When getting into tight places, using the bucket, otherwise doing lots of manuevering, or holding straight it going thru rough places, it gets tiring. Some of this may be due to the heavier front end on the 4WD models. Unless the 1700 has power steering, it will probably be even worse because it is heavier. I have thought about putting one of those rotating knobs on the steering wheel but i havent seen one in years.

Hey all: I have a 1601, similar in size, so I thinks. Anyway, I've found the operator area to be quite comfortable-- it's important to mention that getting into and off the tractor might flip a lever if you've got big feet--- I'm about 160lbs and 5'11 with a 10.5 foot. I've found it most comfortable to operate the tractor wearing flat soled shoes (e.g. sneakers) This way, my feet are more flexible in mounting / unmounting the tractor and also allow me to slip my soles around on the pedals. ...... Now, unfortantely a lot of the time I'm running the tractor I want to use chainsaws and such so sneakers are impractical. . .

I leave you with littlle information, i'm sorry. It's a good size tractor, don't rush things, spend more time in the seat, etc. ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
