YM1700 High/Low shifter broke

The hook on the High/Low shifter broke off. I removed the handle to be able to tap the old one out by pushing it into the case. Not a problem removing the old one as I tapped it from the inside out but cannot figure out how I am going to get the new one in as it will have to be put in from the inside.

Attached is a pic of the old one. As you can see it still needs to go at least another 1/4". Is there a trick to this or do all those gears need to come out?

So I was able to beat the broken one out from the inside but the new one would not go in that way and was hitting the same shaft so I notched it out with a bandsaw and was able to get it in from the inside. Works to go from High to Low but now when I put everything back together tractor will not go into Neutral using main shifter.

Lets back up.

1. The original shift from HI-LOW broke.
2. You replaced the HI-LOW shifter.
3. No Neutral.

In event 1, is it possible the HI-LOW shifter broke due to some unknown binding inside. And now with the replacement, the tractor can not go into neutral?

You didn't mess with anything else from what I can see. The underlying problem still is there.

It's possible that when putting the top cover back on, the forks for the main shifter didn't go in the right places. You may want to check that out.

It probably is installed before the shaft/gears are in place.

This is what I am suspecting but how do I know the "right places"?

You really have to watch it as you put the top cover on. Make sure the gears and forks are aligned so you can drop the top cover.

Don't know your location? Same as the YM1700. Listed YM2000 Cheap Replacement. Should be complete. Facebook market 50.00$ Florence MS. the shifter looks to be there all intact!
