YM1700 Temp

Greetings All.

Recently purchase a YM1700. I haven't really done any work with it. Mainly just driving around the place (next to the highest gear/2400rpm). The temp gauge (Sunpro add-on)after about 20-25 mins shows about 208-210. I flushed and cleaned the radiator, filled with water(no anti-freeze) and added about 5 oz of water wetter. The radiator cap is new 8lbs. Still the temp is about the same.

I'm just worried that when I get a finishing mower I will have a serious temp problem.

Also Wide open she will only run about 2400 rpm. Is this normal??

Everything sounds normal to me, except I believe you need a 13# cap.

Hi Cigardave,

I have a YM1700 and 2400 rpm is correct. Your temperature measurements under no load sound a little high, but not out of question. Mine would run around 190 under no load and go up as high 220-230 while mowing with a 5' finsih mower. With a 5' finish mower, you may have to drop down to 6th gear and drop the RPMs a bit (2000-2200). It all depends on the load.

If you do a search for Operating Temp (all dates), you should find a wealth of knowledge.
